|Originally opened under the control of the Somerset
Central Railway in 1854, Shapwick had two platform built on a passing loop.
The main station building on the up platform was of wooden construction,
this incidentally burnt down in September 1900 and was replaced with a
similar building. The down platform had just a small wooden shelter.
At the eastern end of the station, just beyond a level crossing , there were a couple of sidings with a goods shed.
A seventeen lever wooden signal box was situated on the down side of the line just the other side of the level crossing. This was built in 1901 when the station buildings were re-built following a fire.
