| Built close to the village, Wellow station consisted of
two platforms with the main station buildings being on the up platform,
these being built of grey limestone with slate roofs. The down platform had
just a small wooden waiting shelter. Just to the North of the station there
was a level crossing, and at one time a siding. At the Southern end of the
station on the up line there were also sidings. These were used quite
heavily by the numerous local industries producing goods such as
agricultural equipment, watercress and corn.
The station area was controlled by an 18 lever signal box located at the Eastern end of the down platform adjacent to the level crossing. for a picture of Wellow signal box visit the Home Signal Page. |
